Will the Washington Redskins pull the trigger on THIS WR?
It is no secret that the Washington Redskins need a solid option at the wide receiver position, so are they going to pull the trigger on this option? How about Seattle Seahawks WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh? Adam Schefter from ESPN is reporting right now that the Seattle Seahawks are about ready to simply part ways with the 32 year old receiver. Schefter is reporting the Seahawks want to make the move because they want to move the veteran receiver and his payroll out and former #1 WR Mike Williams into his slot.
First of all, I’m not buying that for a second. The Seahawks have been trying to shop Houshmandzadeh to try to clear his 7 million in guaranteed salary and have been linked to disgruntled San Diego Charger WR, Vincent Jackson, who surprisingly today said he’d play for a one year contract for 7 million dollars. No one team in their right mind is going to pay 7 million for Housh, if the Seahawks do release him, he will be playing for the league minimum of 850,000 dollars and the Seahawks are on the hook for the rest.
Hello? Dan Snyder? There is a receiver on the market, which has averaged 76 receptions and over 900 receiving yards in the past 6 years and he can be had for 850,000 dollars? Have you seen Albert Haynesworth lately? Danny Boy, if the Seahawks release Housh, it’ll be like buying a stock at 25 cents and see it hit 9.00 dollars in December. For God sake you went out and got a quality quarterback, now give him some targets! Pull the trigger on this deal, get Seattle on speed dial. Do you really want to enter the season with Joey Galloway on the roster?
Redskins on the clock-Haynesworth…stay or go?
The Washington Redskins have less than 36 hours until their roster needs to be down to 53 players, so for DT Albert Haynesworth it’s will he stay or will he go. Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan sent a powerful message to the defensive tackle last night, he played in 49 of 55 possible defensive snaps. If he didn’t like being on the field in the third period before, he got to be on the field for the entire night last night, and after watching the game, I can’t say I was impressed.
For a player which said he was going to come into camp and show the Redskins what kind of shape he was in, he didn’t show much last night. He was playing in the 4th period against Arizona Cardinals players, many of which will be out of the league by 6pm on Saturday and looked bad. He was pushed around, he lacked motivation. And don’t give me the line that this was just a preseason game and he was just going through the motions, for all the offseason and training camp issues surrounding him, if he really wanted to make a statement, he could have gone out a really been the force that he was once capable of being on the defensive line. He didn’t do that. He looked like he was in a walk through on the field.
Even his defensive coach, Jim Haslett told the Washington Post, “He just needed reps. I didn’t see any impact plays. I didn’t see any sacks or anything like that. Hopefully, he played well for his sake.”
Hopefully he played well for his sake? That doesn’t sound to me like a glowing endorsement of a player that will make the final 53 man roster. It sounds to me like, hopefully he played well enough to find a job someplace else after we release him.
Which Redskins RB gets cut by Saturday?
Which of the big three veteran running backs will be cut by the Washington Redskins before Saturday’s deadline to meet the 53 man roster? Clinton Portis? Larry Johnson? Willie Parker? I know it won’t be Clinton Portis, he’s the only one of the three that is still productive. So the argument comes down to Larry Johnson and Willie Parker.
Willie Parker is coming off injuries and two very pedestrian seasons. Last year he didn’t manage to break 400 yards in the Pittsburgh Steelers offense. He has done precious little in the pre-season for the Redskins. He had one carry for -1 yards against the Baltimore Ravens and 8 carries for 16 yards against the New York Jets.
Larry Johnson hasn’t really fared much better. He averaged a half a yard a carry against the Ravens and nearly 5 yards a carry with a touchdown late in the game against the New York Jets.
I really am not a fan of either one of these backs, their best playing days are well behind them but if the Redskins are going to keep one, I’d predict it will be Larry Johnson. Even against the Jets back-ups late in the game, he did show some burst and was finishing runs better than Parker has all pre-season.
Tonight’s game will likely be the final audition and we’ll see by Saturday, who remains.
Haynesworth might be inactive week 1
Embattled Washington Redskins DT Albert Haynesworth will likely see plenty of playing time on Thursday night, whether he likes it or not, but it seems as if he might be listed as inactive in week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys. Jason LaCanfora of the NFL Network reported this afternoon that Albert Haynesworth might actually be listed as inactive for the Washington Redskins week one game.
I’m shocked that Haynesworth is even still on the team. Haynesworth seems as if he doesn’t want to play and the Redskins seem as if they just want to continue to tweak him to see what the breaking point will be. He has been a total distraction all off season and now, heading into the last preseason game with Donovan McNabb and RB Clinton Portis nursing injuries, this announcement will most likely create another press firestorm of Haynesworth articles.
For the lfe of me, I can’t understand this situation. Last week Haynesworth reported (after saying he wasn’t going to speak with the media again) that he was going over to head coach Mike Shanahan’s house, have dinner a smoke cigars. Obviously that plan went no where, because no the team is wanting to put him on the inactive list in week one according to LaCanfora.
I mean really, just cut the guy at his point, terminate it. This is becoming like an abusive co-dependent relationship. This can’t be good for Shanahan wanting to build a team in Washington, and he has had littler tolerance in the past for behavior like Haynesworth’s.
Perhaps the Redskins want to get Haynesworth as many reps as possible on Thursday night and hope that another team suffers an injury on the defensive line so they can trade him for a 20.00 Red Lobster gift card and a 12 pack of Coke Zero.
Is McNabb now uncertain for Redskins opener?
Is it possible that Washington Redskins QB Donovan McNabb is going to be unavailable for the home opener against the Dallas Cowboys? According to Redskins head coach, Mike Shanahan, Donovan McNabb’s injury is uncertain at this time. In another bizarre move, Shanhan said that Redskins backup Rex Grossman, who was less than inspiring last night, won’t play in this weeks last preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals either, and that has to give Redskins fans some pause.
Shanahan told the media in regards to McNabb’s injury, “I really don’t know for sure. That’s why it’s day to day. We’ll see how it goes”. Now this could just be a giant smokescreen as the Redskins prepare for a visit from the Cowboys, or there could be something more to this story. As his injury has simply been described as an ankle injury, it could actually be a high ankle sprain, which would be very bad news for the Redskins. And add in the fact that Grossman will not see any action this week after a very lackluster performance last night, gives Redskins fans a reason to think that there is more to this story than Shanahan is letting on.
In additional injury news, Redskins FB Mike Sellers remains day to day with a knee injury and RB Clinton Portis, who suffered an ankle injury last night is expected to be ready to go. Shanahan said, “I don’t think it’s too serious. It’s not a big setback. I would anticipate him being able to practice in a couple of days”. There same however can’t be said of McNabb.
