The Mike Shanahan era has begun in Washington, and Albert Haynesworth doesn’t seem happy. It’s reported that the Redskins are going to employ a base 3-4 defense this season, which would force Haynesworth to the nose tackle position.

Haynesworth, who is due a 21 million dollar paycheck this season, has a reputation of taking plays off, stepping on players helmets, and being a disruptive force in the locker room.

He told Chris Russell of 106.7 The Fan that he “isn’t thrilled” about the switch to a 3-4. He’s skipped the voluntary workouts for the Redskins and has chosen to workout with a private trainer.

The player who was the largest free agent signing heading into the 2009 NFL season, was a disappointment for the Redskins this season, recording 29 solo tackles and 4 sacks while missing 4 games. Of course, it is possible that Albert to move to end on the defensive line, but just how effective can a 340 pound DE be?

Mike Shanahan will no doubt be monitoring this situation and if Haynesworth is deemed to be a disruptive presence for the team, he could very well be moved prior to the start of the season.

Hail Redskin Nation!

Welcome Redskin fans to the newest site on the net covering your favorite team. My name is Eric and I will be covering the Redskins for the Rantsports.com network until a fulltime blogger is found. Do you have an opinion regarding your favorite team? Who doesn’t? Can you put those thoughts into words that folks will want to read? Give it a try. Submit your name to rantsports management for consideration.

Until then, I’ll be covering the ‘Skins unusual lack of movement in free agency, the upcoming draft and tackling a few issues such as, was Larry Johnson a good addition? Will Mike Shanahan take this team to the next level? Is Jason Campbell the quarterback of the future?

So sit back and enjoy, and if you have something to say, let the rantsports.com network hear it.
