Redskin Receiver Help Coming?

The Washington Redskins could be getting a major upgrade at the wide receiver position. Last week, the Seattle Seahawks were linked to rumors surrounding San Diego Chargers WR Vincent Jackson. Jackson has refused to sign his tender offer and is threatening to sit out the first 10 games of the 2010 season. However, a new team is linked to reports regarding Jackson, the Washington Redskins.

Jackson has become a true top flight receiving threat with the Chargers and would provide Donovan McNabb with the deep threat so sorely lacking in Washington. However, the report I linked states that Jackson and his agent are looking for a deal worth more than Brandon Marshall received from the Miami Dolphins. Marshall’s deal was a 4 year deal worth 47.5 million dollars. Marshall has a string of three consecutive seasons of over 100 receptions and Jackson has only 1 season over 80.In addition to the somewhat unreasonable contract request, Jackson may face up to a 4 game suspension in 2010 following two DUI arrests.

Jackson would be a welcome addition to a Redskins team which needs a legitimate #1 wide receiver, but only at the right price.

Sapp slaps Haynesworth

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneer DT and current NFL Network contributor Warren Sapp had a few words for Albert Haynesworth, “Stop it”.

Appearing on the Sirius NFL Radio with Vic Carucci and Howard Balzer, Sapp called out Haynesworth. “I mean c’mon son. You sat at the table. The people told you they had a very lovely check for you….Albert Haynesworth, you took the check now show up for the job”.

Sapp continued later on in the show to basically question Haynesworth’s passion to play last year. “How about he had issues showing up for the Cowboys game and the Eagles game. I mean, if a body part’s not missing, you’re showing up for division games. Are you kidding me?”

Sapp is just yet another former player who finds issues with Haynesworth’s behavior on and off the field. You know that all the current Redskins are reading these articles, listening to the interviews, but not many are coming to Haynesworth’s defense.

The longer this continues the more likely that Haynesworth will simply be released as I doubt the Redskins would get anything of value in return for Albert at this point.

Haynesworth is proving opponents correct

Washington Redskins DT Albert Haynesworth stated yesterday that he will be at Washington’s training camp when it opens. Haynesworth’s statement was published in the Washington Post. Haynesworth statement was, “Despite my current differences with the Redskins, I have always planned to attend training camp and honor my contract. As I have previously said, I am continuing to prepare for the football season individually and will report on time, in shape and ready to play football. Any issues I have with the club I will discuss preivately and therefore do not plan to make any further public comments about this matter.”

Well, there you have it, all wrapped up neatly in a prepared statement which was most likely written by his agent. Again, Haynesworth said he’d show up at mandatory camp and failed to show for that, and got docked 10,000.00 from the Redskins.

Whether he wants to play in a 3-4 defense or not, Haynesworth might have to play football in 2010, he might need the money. Not only is the stripper suing him, he’s getting sued by his ex-wife, and a bank wants 2.38 million from Albert for not paying his loan. Now this morning, Profootballtalk.com reports there might be another lawsuit facing Haynesworth.

ESPN quotes his ex-wife as saying “He (Haynesworth) thinks he’s above everything. He feels he’s entitled. He’s narcissistic.” His statement issued yesterday seem to reflect those feelings. So as more and more details of Haynesworth’s off the field behavior become public, it sure is becoming more clear that this guy is a real scumbag and is likely to be a cancer for the Redskins in 2010 if he remains with the club.

Practice isn’t all Haynesworth misses

Well, well, it’s been a fantastic offseason for Washington Redskins DT Albert Haynesworth. Now the disgruntled defensive tackle is being sued for 2.4 million dollars.

The 100 million dollar man has failed to make payments on a loan from Clayton Bank & Trust. You can read a copy of the suit right here. The suit is regarding a commercial loan taken out in June of 2009, right after Haynesworth inked a deal with the Washington Redskins. Haynesworth has received over 30 million from the Redskins over the past year so why can’t he simply pay the bill? Perhaps he secured an adjustable rate loan and the percentage switched from 4.3% to 3.4% and he simply refused to pay it.

Washington has busy weekend

The Washington Redskins completed a very busy weekend of adjusting their roster. The first move was the trade with the New Orleans Saints for OT Jammal Brown in exchange for a conditional pick in 2011. Brown will play right tackle for the Redskins, opposite Washington’s first round selection, Trent Williams. The former two time Pro Bowl tackle will help rebuild a Redskins O-line which was horrible last year. It appears that Washington might have acted in the nick of time, The Dallas Morning News is reporting this morning that the Dallas Cowboys were interested in acquiring Brown as well.

But that wasn’t the end of the moves for the Redskins. Washington waived DL Greg Peterson and claimed CB Ramzee Robinson off waivers from the Cleveland Browns.

Robinson has played for the Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns, primarily on special teams. He played his college ball at the University of Alabama.
