The Washington Redskins front office has finally come to their senses and have released RB Larry Johnson. I questioned the wisdom of the Washington Redskins signing both Willie Parker and Larry Johnson in the offseason. Both players are well past their prime and very little to contribute.

Larry Johnson’s football skills were once very impressive but right now his football skills are on par with my professional baseball skills. I can’t hit, I can’t throw and I can’t run, other than that, I could have been huge. The Washington Redskins are last in the league right now with only 53 yards per game average, Larry Johnson was not going to improve that average, he was only going to hinder it.

Redskins find offense, lose game

The Washington Redskins found some offense on Sunday, but ended up losing to the Houston Texans. Donovan McNabb threw for 426 yards, but only one touchdown in the losing effort. Sunday’s game featured quite the offensive firepower, with both teams combining for 947 yards of offense.

The Houston Texans stunned the Indianapolis Colts last week by running the football. Last week, Texans quarterback Matt Schaub had just over 100 yards passing, but he made up for that yesterday, throwing for nearly 500 yards. I had expected the Texans to throw the ball more this week, but not quite that much as Schaub lit up the Redskins secondary.

The Redskins had an opportunity to win the game in overtime and it appeared that Graham Gano had nailed 51 yard field goat to win the game. However, Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak had called timeout just prior to the snap. On Gano’s next try, the kick sailed wide right.

What should be of major concern for the Washington Redskins was the injury suffered to rookie OT Trent Williams. Williams left the game with a knee and toe injury and will undergo an MRI this afternoon. With Williams absent from the game, Texans DE Mario Williams finished the day with 3 sacks and 3 quarterback hits.

Haynesworth won’t play for the Redskins?

The Washington redskins are not optimistic that DT Albert Haynesworth will be playing against the Houston Texans later this afternoon. According to Adam Schefter via Twitter, “Albert Haynesworth battling a sprained ankle that he will test in pregame warmups, but Redskins not optimistic he will play vs. Texans”.

This situation with Haynesworth is well out of control and has been for several months now. This cat has an excuse for just about everything, skipping off season workouts not withstanding. How serious can the ankle sprain be? Why can’t he suck it up and play the game? Time and time again, Haynesworth has had an opportunity to dispute all the negativity he received in the press and simply show up and play football at the level he was capable of once, long ago.

However, he simply showed up to camp out of shape and has not been anything resembling a force on the field for the Washington Redskins. If he misses today’s game, I think he is one step closer to getting shipped out of town before the NFL trade deadline. Hell, the Redskins are even having a hard time trying to get some playing film on Haynesworth to induce a trade with another team for him.

Are the Washington Redskins in the running for Vincent Jackson?

Are the Washington Redskins the team who reportedly has already spoken to the San Diego Chargers about Vincent Jackson? The San Diego Chargers have reportedly already spoken to a team about moving the disgruntled wide receiver for a reported 1 year deal worth 7 million dollars.

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan has not denied interest in having Vincent Jackson as a member of the Washington Redskins. Jackson had his suspension reduced to four games as long as he is traded before a deadline of Wednesday September 22nd.

The Washingon Redskins would be a good fit for Jackson. Washington needs receiving help. Against the Dallas Cowboys, Santana Moss was the only wide receiver who caught more than one ball. While Anthony Armstrong can develop into a solid #3 receiver depending on aging receiver Joey Galloway to contribute all season long is a pipe dream. For the Redskins to have thoughts of the playoffs this season, they are going to need a have another legitimate wide receiver.

Will Kyle Shanahan defeat the Houston Texans today?

Here comes the Houston Texans getting ready to face off against Mike and Kyle Shanahan. Will Kyle Shanahan make the difference in the game between the Houston Texans and Washington Redskins? Of course, Kyle Shanahan was the offensive coordinator last season and now has joined his father in Washington with the Redskins. Will his intimate knowledge of the Texans give the Washington Redskins an advantage on Sunday?

Of course Kyle Shanahan won’t be putting on pads for the Redskins on Sunday afternoon, but his intricate knowledge of how the Houston Texans operate on offense could give the Redskins some advantage on defense. However, as much as has been made about Kyle Shanahan’s knowledge of the Texans, the same can be said of Texans head coach Gary Kubiak and his familiarity of Mike Shanahan’s tendencies. Kubiak was Shanhan’s offensive coordinator when the pair where in Denver with the Broncos. The both utilize the zone blocking scheme on offense so these are two teams which have very intimate knowledge of what the other one is going to do.

Houston Texans’ RB Arian Foster is just 102 yards away from setting the record for the most rushing yards in his first three games since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970. Foster ripped the Indianapolis Colts for 231 yards and 3 touchdowns last week as the Texans defeated the Colts for only the second time in the franchise’s history. I don’t think that Foster will reach that 102 yard mark today. The Redskins front seven is much more difficult to run on.
