Washington Redskins to look at another defensive player

Shortly after the Cleveland Browns released veteran DT Shaun Rogers, the Washington Redskins brought him in for a look, and now the Redskins are doing the same with another defensive veteran who has been released by his former team, S O.J. Atogwe.

Atogwe is still a very valuable contributor on the field, last season he recorded 73 tackles and three interceptions. For his career he has logged 393 tackles, 16 forced fumbles and 22 interceptions. Atogwe has played 6 seasons in the NFL.

The Redskins are free to sign Atogwe or Rogers as free agents up until the March 3rd deadline.

The Washington Redskins are exploring all options on defense after coming off a horrible 2010 defensive campaign. The Redskins were nearly dead last against the run and ranked 26th against the pass at the conclusion of last year.

Atogwe is believed to be best suited to play free safety but he has recorded time at the strong safety position.

A Pair of Washington Redskins on the mend, recovering nicely

A pair of Washington Redskins players are on the mend and recovering nicely. KR Brandon Banks remains in the hospital after sustaining a knife would early Saturday morning and S LeRon Landry is recovering from wrist surgery.

Landry underwent wrist surgery earlier this month on February 4th in order to repair a dislocated wrist. Landry sustained the wrist injury early in the regular season but continued to play through the injury before ultimately being placed on the injured reserve list after sustaining an Achilles injury in December.

Banks remains in the hospital, recovering from knife wounds, but according to his agent, he should be released at some time within the next 24 hours. Banks’ agent, James Gould released this statement to the media.

“In response to the well wishes, many calls and concerns for Brandon Banks, he still remains in a local hospital for precautionary reasons and is expected to be released within 24 hours. He would like to thank everyone for their concerns”.

Redskins DT Albert Haynesworth once again makes news, and it’s not on the field

Seriously, how much longer are the Washington Redskins going to tolerate these events which center around DT Albert Haynesworth. Last week, Haynesworth received misdemeanor charges for road rage and now this afternoon, the football world is learning that he is now being investigated for possible sexual abuse charges. Of course, Haynesworth is innocent until proven guilty, however, how many people get charged for road rage and investigated for possible sexual abuse charges all in the same week?

Maybe, it’s just a bad week for Albert. Or perhaps, maybe it’s been a bad year for Albert, but it seems that bad news surrounds this man wherever he goes. In the offseason, Haynesworth not only upset his team and the Redskins new coach, but he was sued for defaulting on business loans and was slapped with a paternity suit. The DT couldn’t even finish the season with the Redskins on the active roster after the head coach questioned his desire to play. Now this in the span of one week.

According to nbcwashington.com, Haynesworth has not been named officially in this report, as his agent, Chad Speck has said he and his client are “considering their own legal actions against those involved”. Haynesworth seems to be a lawyers best friend.

According to the police report on the nbcwashington website, “Subject 1″, who is reported to be Haynesworth, at 1:30am Sunday morning went to pay his bill, and slid his credit card between the cocktail waitress’s breasts and then caressed the waitresses breast as well.

Throw all of this out for one minute. Perhaps Haynesworth is innocent of these last two situations, but why do these events always follow him? Always some sort of chaos. It can’t always be about the huge contract that Haynesworth signed two years ago, several players in the NFL are very wealthy and this sort of chaos doesn’t seem to follow them.

This situation will not end for the Washington Redskins until  they finally release Haynesworth and move on. Trouble and chaotic situations have followed him from his days with the Tennessee Titans, he’s a player which is never happy and is always the victim in his mind one way or another. It is time to move on from him. Actually, it was time to move on from him back last August.

How much longer will the Washington Redskins tolerate DT Albert Haynesworth?

Have the Washington Redskins finally had enough of DT Albert Haynesworth? This week, Haynesworth was charged with misdemeanor assault stemming from a road rage incident. Of course, Haynesworth’s attorney said that his client is innocent. It’s never Haynesworth’s fault for anything.

In related news, the Washington Redskins interviewed former Cleveland Browns DT Shaun Rogers after he was released earlier in the week. Rogers is a bit older than Haynesworth, but the two players had almost identical numbers on the field this season. Albert tallied 16 tackles and 2.5 sacks while Rogers recorded 17 tackles and 2.5 sacks.

Rogers became dispensable while the Browns are expected to convert from a 3-4 defense into a 4-3 scheme, coupled with the fact the Browns are trying to remove some of their roster salary heading into next season.

It’s not that Rogers would be a perfect fit for the Redskins, far from it, but he is familiar playing the 3-4 scheme and if the Redskins have plans to move Haynesworth, then Rogers might be a player they would want to bring in. Since the NFL season is officially over, the fact that Rogers was released by the Browns, makes him a free agent and he can sign with any team currently.

Would the Washington Redskins have been wise to select Aaron Rodgers in 2005?

Hindsight is always 20/20 so lets turn back the clock and discuss if the Washington Redskins would have been wise to select QB Aaron Rodgers in 2005. The Redskins did take a quarterback in that draft, Jason Campbell out of Auburn. Campbell is long gone from the Redskins, now the starting quarterback for the Oakland Raiders. Love him or hate him, in order to be fair with Campbell, he did suffer from an endless parade of coaching changes during his time with the Redskins.
