Great moves, Redskins! Now that Portis, Haneworth-less and McNabb are gone, Shanahan has a clean slate and much of last years toxicity has been removed. Looking forward to a new and productive era.

There’s no question Banks did a lot for this team last year, but it’s hard to keep a player who can only contribute in one area. He’s a great special teamer, but doesn’t provide a ton on offense so he’s essentially “eating” a wide receiver roster spot. Not to mention the fact that the Skins drafted Aldrick Robinson and Niles Paul, both of whom have very good return skills. I like Brandon Banks. Hopefully he makes the team. But it’s not a lock at all.

Many thanks to Neil who caught me in a memory-lapse. He’s absolutely correct. The Doug Dutch trade was with Baltimore for John Beck, not with St. Louis for Adam Carriker. The Redskins acquired Carriker from the Rams by swapping seventh round picks, an even better deal than the John Beck – Doug Dutch trade. I don’t know why I got those mixed up. THanks for the catch Neil!!

Well, for one thing do your research. The Redskins swapped 2 picks moving down in both the 5ht and 7th rounds to acquire Adam Carriker.

Besides, you need to get it straight. Doug Dutch was traded to the Ravens for John Beck and it is correct that he is back on the Practice Squad.

Well it hasn’t been determined yet whether or not there will be a normal training camp and/or preseason. NFL owners and player reps are currently meeting. Most “experts” say they have until early to mid July to get a deal done if they want the 2011 pre and regular season to go on as scheduled.

In the mean time, I do think these practices are very beneficial, especially for the rookies. The Redskins drafted 12 players in April’s draft. That’s 12 guys who need to get used to the way things are done in the NFL. John Beck has given them all playbooks and I’m told that these practices have presented a lot of opportunities for on-the-field instruction.

How is it going to affect the Redskins now that they don’t have as much of a preseason? Are these player led practices that beneficial or are they just for show?

You bring up a good point. He’d probably need to put on 10-15 pounds though. We’ll see how he does in training camp. Luckily for him, there’s not a ton of competition at NT currently on the roster.

Chris, Jeff’s right about one thing, Jacobs is closer to 260 or 270. His problem is that he’s also 6’4” which makes him run really high. That’s exactly why London Fletcher was able to truck him the way he did (being 5’9” and 250 lbs).

With Landry’s new size and better technique, he’d have no trouble at all taking Jacobs out. Especially because Jacobs can hardly make from the bed to the bathroom these days.
