Samsung has said that they are working together with Google to revolutionize messaging. They would like to improve the current messaging system. Their idea is that users would be able to engage in group chats or even group video calls, which would output in large transfers of files and all of this would be possible without any additional apps.
They would like to integrate Android Messages with Samsung Messages, that these two apps would work together seamlessly. If they make this happen it’ll boost RCS.
Samsung is going to bring RCS features to existing phones and they will start with Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus.
New Galaxy smartphones will automatically support RCS messaging.
“By furthering our robust partnership with Google, we will bring a richer messaging experience to our customers, letting them seamlessly chat with their friends and family across messaging platforms,” said Patrick Chomet, an executive vice president of Samsung’s Mobile Communications Business.
This is a big counter move from Google and Samsung when messaging apps like WhatsApp, WeChat, Discord, and Telegram are more popular than regular SMS messaging.
Vice president for communications products at Google Anil Sabharwal revealed: ”Our partnership will further advance our shared vision of a substantially improved messaging experience on Android for users, brands and the broader Android ecosystem.”
